Spider veins are not only cosmetically unattractive but can become itchy or painful. They commonly occur on the legs or the thighs and even sometimes on the face. In order to address them, many patients turn to sclerotherapy treatment in Florida.
Dr. Marta Rendon of Rendon Center for Dermatology and Aesthetic Medicine provides sclerotherapy as a safe, effective, and minimally invasive way of addressing unwanted veins. This treatment does not require surgery and many patients see the complete benefits in just a few weeks. The procedure is done as an in-office treatment and is commonly performed in less than one hour, depending on how many veins are being treated during the session. Although some patients may notice a slight stinging sensation as the procedure is being done, many do not experience any discomfort whatsoever.
The procedure is done by injecting a sclerosing agent directly into the troublesome vein. By doing this, it helps close up the vein. While this may sound like a bad thing, it is important for patients to understand that blood flow is just redirected to healthier veins. This does not “clot” the blood and put anyone at risk for medical concerns.
Many patients are able to return to their normal activities after their treatment but may need to wear compression hose for several days. Strenuous activities or exercise should be avoided for about one week and patients should reduce sun exposure during this time. All of this will be discussed during the initial consultation appointment as patients learn about the procedure. Patients who have sclerotherapy performed will also be given after-care instructions once their procedure has been completed.
Dr. Marta Rendon, of Rendon Center for Dermatology and Aesthetic Medicine, is here to assist patients in the Florida area with many cosmetic and medical dermatology procedures and services and welcomes new patients to her state-of-the-art facility.
